Meso-Needling

What is Meso-needling also known as skin needling?

It's a non-invasive treatment where the upper dermal layer is punctured with tiny needles, creating micro-wounds just beneath the surface of the skin. This process causes the body to generate a surge of collagen and elastin, which are the two primary elements of skin production (that heal and renew the skin). This effectively kick-starts your skin's rejuvenation and cell turnover.

Simply put, the treatment involves putting teeny tiny needles in your face to encourage the body's healing response - the result of which is fresh, glowy skin.

What does it do for your skin?

Skin Needling is the one-stop anti-ageing skin treatment! It stimulates the production of your collagen to create smoother, healthier skin. Skin Needling benefits include reducing the appearance of:

  • Acne scarring
  • Fine lines
  • Pigmentation
  • Enlarged pores
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks

What happens in an appointment?

The appointment goes for about 60 minutes all up. Its up to the client if they want numbing cream before the skin needling. This can be applied 20/30 minutes before starting. I will cleanse (or double-cleanse your skin) I will then wipe the skin in antiseptic solution called chlorhexidine to sterile the skin clean. I will then be applying hyaluronic acid serum on your skin before i start skin needling. Microneedling with Hyaluronic Acid is used to smooth wrinkles, fill fine lines, reduce the size of pores and minimize stretch marks. It can literally take years of aging from your face and skin.

After about 10 minutes, you'll be ready for the needling. What looks like a big pen apparatus is turned on and glides across your skin, focusing on one area at a time. Micro-sized needles pierce the upper dermal layer using a spring-loaded system (to ensure a consistent depth throughout the treatment), kick-starting your body's wound healing response, aka the production of collagen and elastin. This part (the actual needling) takes about 10-15 minutes. After your done, you'll go under the Led Light Therapy machine for 20 minutes, which speeds up the healing process. The Led Light therapy feels like you're sunbaking which is glorious. I will put little goggles on your eyes to protect them, but the light can still be a bit uncomfortable until your eyes adjust. I will give you massage on your feet while your relaxing in the led light. After that's done, I will pop on some hyaluronic acid and a recovery cream, before finishing. There are also extras i do add in with this treatment, this can include an arm, shoulder, hand and scalp massage!

Do you have any tips for dealing with the downtime?

You want to avoid getting hot and sweating; this will make your face redder and feel pretty uncomfortable. Wait 24 hours until you resume your regular skincare routine; I will send you home your aftercare sheet after our session.

When your skin starts getting flakey and dry (two to three days after the treatment), don't use anything too harsh to exfoliate. Instead, use a washcloth and warm water in the shower, rubbing the skin in circular motions to remove the dead skin.

What results should I expect?

GLOWING SKIN! In all seriousness, if you're anything like me, your skin will glow like it's never glowed before. Fresh skin is the bomb. I always get oodles of 'glow' related compliments, starting about a week after treatment. It also helps reduce and smooth fine lines  - many people ask if I've had Botox after a treatment.

While 'the glow' is the primary thing I notice post-needling, I've also seen insane improvements in acne, congestion, pigmentation, and horrible texture on my skin.

How often should I get Skin Needling treatments?

This depends on your individual treatment plan and your treatment goals. On average, we recommend 3-6 treatments with each treatment spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Note, each person will vary slightly and I will advise on the recommended number of treatments at your complimentary consultation.

How long should it take before I see results?

Typically, you will see results after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will become visible after 4 to 6 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart). The condition of your skin will improve over the next 6-12 months after a course of treatments, especially when combined with recommended post homecare.

Is the treatment painful?

You may feel some discomfort as some areas are more sensitive such as forehead and around mouth and nose. However, topical anesthetic cream will be applied for 15-30 minutes before the procedure. This will render the treatment virtually pain-free.

What are the contraindications of skin needling treatments?

  • Roaccutane use in the last 2 months
  • Dermatitis or infection in the area to be treated
  • Pregnancy
  • Keloid scars
  • Abnormal wound healing
  • Uncontrolled diabetes

  • Skin infections, active acne, active herpes lesions, psoriasis or eczema on the treated areas, history of keloid scarring. Recent laser resurfacing, PDT or aggressive chemical peels. Carriers of the herpes virus will be provided with a prophylactic prescription of antivirals to avoid a possible herpes outbreak triggered by the needling. Daily supplementation of Vitamin C orally and/or topically is crucial as vitamin C is a key building block essential to the production of collagen by the fibroblasts.
